Nowadays, users rely more on their smartphones when engaging with brands, consuming content and making purchases online, according to a recently published Ecommerce Quarterly Report. In the period between Q2 2011 and Q2 2012 the overall website traffic from smartphones has seen a 103% increase, while increase in traffic from Apple iPhone and Google Android alone has made 117% and 85% accordingly. In terms of the global smartphone market share, Android is leading the race with a 61% share and iPhone is tagging along with 20.5%.
Speaking specifically about shopping behaviors of smartphone users, 37% of consumers use their devices for taking a product’s picture and 26% actually complete a purchase with a smartphone. It’s interesting to note that the average order value (AOV) is almost identical for iPhone and Android: $97.49 versus $97.16.
Regarding mobile marketing tactics currently in use, 46% of businesses develop mobile versions of their websites, 45% – mobile apps and 27% – location-based targeting.
